Wedding Suit Frequently Asked Questions

Tailor Consultations

What should I expect during the initial tailor consultation?

The initial consultation is a relaxed, creative, and collaborative session where we explore you and your partner's vision, wedding theme, and your personal style. We will discuss different suit styles (like a tuxedo vs a three-piece vs a two piece / double-breasted or single breasted - guide you through fabric selections, custom details like lapels, buttons, linings, and stitching. Measurements can be taken if you are excited for a start.

Do I need to bring anything my first consultation?

It's helpful if you have a mood board (inspiration) - all photos you've gathered from social media, colour swatches, or suits from past weddings. If you have a budget and the number of suits required for the bridal party (Groomsmen), that's beneficial. Come with an open mind to explore. If you care to get measured bring along your best fitting shirt and shoes.

Is the consultation free and where does it take place?

Yes, our initial consultation is complimentary and comes with no obligation. As part of our "Tailor On The Road" service, we conduct these private consultations at a location convenient for you—be it your home or office, anywhere across Australia. We also do video chats.

Shopping Ahead of Wedding Date

How far in advance should I begin shopping for my wedding suit?

We recommend starting your wedding suit journey 6 to 9 months before your wedding date. This comfortable timeframe ensures a completely stress-free process, allowing ample time for fabric selection, meticulous construction, and any fine-tuning adjustments without any rush.

What is the absolute latest I can order a suit for my wedding?

While we recommend a longer lead time, our typical production turnaround is approximately 3-4 weeks after your first fitting and measurements are finalised. To be safe, we suggest booking your first fitting no later than 3 months prior to the wedding. Rush services may be available but are subject to fabric availability and production schedules.

Why is it not a good idea to shop for a suit too early, like a year or more in advance?

Personal style can evolve, and more importantly, body shape can change. We take precise measurements during your fitting, and ordering more than a year out increases the likelihood that significant alterations may be needed closer to the date. Starting within the 6-9 month window is the perfect balance.

First Fittings & The Process

What happens during the first fitting?

The first fitting is the most critical step. After finalising your design and fabric choices, we take over 4 precise body measurements to determine your try-on suit. During the fitting process, we discuss posture and fit preferences to ensure the final garment is not only perfectly tailored to your body but is also comfortable for the entire wedding day. This fitting is where the blueprint for your suit is officially created.

What should I wear to my fitting appointment?

You're at home, you do not have to bring anything, but your personality. If you're coming to me, you can bring along a form-fitting shirt (like a dress shirt) though not necessary. It is also essential to wear similar style of dress shoes you intend to wear on your wedding day, as this directly affects the measurement for your trouser length and break..

How many fittings are required after the suit is made

Our made-to-measure process is incredibly precise, so most clients find their suit fits perfectly upon delivery. However, we always schedule a final fitting session to ensure every detail is flawless. In the rare event that minor adjustments are needed, we handle them promptly. Typically, you can expect 1-2 fittings in total.

What if my weight changes between my first and final fitting?

This is a common concern, and we plan for it. We always leave a healthy amount of inlay fabric within the suit's seams, allowing our tailors to make necessary adjustments to the fit. We recommend scheduling your fitting about 1 month, and a final fitting 1 week before the wedding day to ensure a perfect look.
